Danucera Diaries

Q: Tell us a little about yourself.
Tracy:
I’m Tracy Seng, a born and raised East Coast girl who migrated to the West Coast to pursue and grow my career as an event producer and media professional in Los Angeles. Currently working with Sunset magazine on brand partnerships and experiential activations in the Home & Design space, I love bringing brands to life through meaningful experiences. I really enjoy a consistent fitness routine that includes Pilates and long walks in the early morning California sunshine, and my yoga practice is pretty solid. I’m a certified Yoga Instructor and have travelled to Bali for deeper education and growth. Living in the West has opened my eyes and my heart to endless possibilities when it comes to travel, culture, wellness, love and overall quality of life. Being an event planner keeps me very social and in touch with the incredible venues and locations around LA. I’m lucky to have such a rich network in one of the biggest cities in the US!

Q: How did you go from a Philly girl to California girl?
Tracy:
The very short answer is, I was drawn to year-round sunshine, new opportunities, and taking a risk that was outside my comfort zone. California was always calling me. I was fascinated by the lifestyle I saw in movies and TV in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Anyone who knew me well, knew that I was destined to live in Southern California. My marketing and events experience at Philadelphia Magazine landed me a similar leadership role at Los Angeles magazine 15 years ago, and it happened pretty fast. It was an easy decision but the fear of leaving my family, friends, relationships and everything I had built was quite terrifying. But like Dorothy learned from Glinda, you can click your heels 3 times and be transported home quickly (that plus a little help from American Airlines!). I will never forget being in the Rescue Spa treatment room with Danuta and she shared her story about moving to the US from Poland. I was terrified to leave Philly, but was encouraged to by a beautiful human who was treating my skin, and my heart, at the same time.

Q: Yoga, wellness — what's your philosophy, what's your routine, how does it help?
Tracy: Good skin care, daily movement, eating well, practicing gratitude, and being outdoors are my holy grails. Wellness for me is about showing up as my best self, grounded, calm, and energized. I’m naturally a positive person, and my yoga practice helped me tap into that expression in a deeper way. I’m a big believer that movement is critical to holistic wellness. I’m religious about getting in at least 1 hour of movement every day. I also keep a mini gratitude journal in my phone that’s titled “Daily Happy Surprises”. Each day I reflect and enter at least one thing that brought me joy that day. It’s something that really works to keep me focused on what’s good, rather than looking at what’s missing. Counting the small wins always adds up in a big way to boost confidence and positivity. My skincare has become a really important part of my wellness routine as well. Washing my face at night, cleansing the day away, followed by a good moisturizer ensures a solid night of sleep and rest. It’s intentional and forever part of my daily ritual.

Q: What are your favorite places within the Sunset lifestyle across the USA?
Tracy:
I live 10 minutes away from the beach in Santa Monica and less than 20 minutes from some of the prettiest mountain trails and coastline in Malibu. Sedona is a new favorite for the red rock hiking adventures and the spiritual energy. I also love Palm Springs for the architecture and the retro culture. Malibu for the vibes and the ocean breezes. Utah and Colorado for the snow and the mountain views. I’m so lucky to live in the West and enjoy all of the magic and natural beauty that exists here, but I’ll forever spend some of my summer vacation time at the Jersey Shore. There’s nothing else like it.

Q: Explain your outlook on beauty, glamour, smartness, and power — how are these connected?
Tracy:
This may be an unpopular opinion, but to me, beauty is power. And I don’t mean beauty in the traditional sense of how someone looks. I mean the kind of beauty that radiates from the inside and is reflected in the way you live, take care of yourself, and show up in the world. I believe beauty begins with wellness. It’s in how you care for your skin, nourish your body, move, and pay attention to the details that make you feel your best. You only get one machine, so I believe in keeping it well maintained!

Beauty & glamour don’t have to be complicated, it’s more about being fresh and being effortlessly put together. I have a more minimalist approach to style that’s reflective of what I see and feel here in LA. When you feel polished and intentional about how you present yourself, it translates directly into confidence, and confidence creates opportunity and abundance. That’s how beauty, glamour, smartness and power are all interconnected. It’s not about perfection or simply looking beautiful, it’s about how you carry yourself, and how you make other people feel.

Q: You've built a career creating experiences that bring brands to life. What makes an experience feel truly memorable?
Tracy:
Successful experiences are about the way you make someone feel and they include details that seem invisible. Guests might not remember the actual date, or the location, the food, or even the music, but they will remember the way you make them feel. Events are meant to be memorable and often give the brand (or sponsors) credit for that memory and positive feeling. I’m always thinking about ways to create an emotional connection to a brand. Those details may be things guests never consciously notice, but they will recall and remember how we made them feel.

For me, a truly memorable experience is authentic and engaging with a little element of surprise and delight. It’s live storytelling that engages the senses and gives people something to talk about long after they leave. The best events don’t feel overly produced, they feel effortless. And ironically, making something feel effortless requires an extraordinary amount of attention to detail behind the scenes. I know I’m winning when people tell me my job “looks easy”.

Q: Danucera is rooted in purposeful formulas and a streamlined ritual. How does that philosophy align with the way you approach your own life and work?
Tracy:
This philosophy aligns with how I try to live and work: being intentional, consistent, and paying attention to the details. Living in California and producing events, I’m often working in beautiful but complex environments where every detail is considered. The ultimate goal is to make something feel effortless, but that takes tremendous thought and activation behind the scenes. I approach my own life much the same way. Less is more and I’d rather have a streamlined ritual that works rather than 10 complicated ones that don’t. That’s what I love about Danucera. The formulas are simple, I can manage the routine, and I feel good about what I’m doing for my body. My future self thanks you!

Q:If each step of the Danucera Ritual played a role on an event team, which product would be the creative director, the producer, and the finishing touch?
Tracy: The Creative Director is Cerabalm for me. It sets the tone and the mood of the skin before anyone else jumps in. It’s quiet at first, but then after sitting for a short while, it jumps up with a big punch and allows for the show to begin with big energy and impact. D22 Tonic is the Executive Producer, the one who decides on the plans, directs, and calls the shots. This product gives way to the most expansive display of skin and allows the core glow to shine through. The finishing touch for me is no doubt the Cream Supreme. It smooths everything over, works well with all other products and just sits so nicely that it almost feels invisible. In my professional world, I’ve always said that the most impactful details are those you don’t notice. Together the 3 create a memorable event for the skin.

Q: What makes Danucera feel distinctive in a beauty landscape filled with constant launches and complicated routines?
Tracy:
Less is more. We are all busy and as women, generally don’t have a lot of time left in the day to tend to our own needs. Who seriously has time for a complex 14-step skincare routine? We are constantly being told that we need the next product, the next step, or a complicated process to look young and feel refreshed. Our grandmothers used simple products to support balance and hydration. I think that’s what Danucera represents to me. A luxurious, simple, yet effective path to treating myself. Plus, it’s a brand I already trust because of the extreme talent and experience behind it. The skincare edit from Danucera is attractive, effective, elevated and intentional. It’s rare to find a product line that can support your needs (almost anticipating them) and focus on a simple promise to deliver great, healthy skin.

Q:What small rituals help you feel grounded, polished, and ready to show up?
Tracy: My gratitude practice, hot lemon water in the morning, a yummy coffee, a consistent skincare routine that is truly the core of my evening wind down routine. A clear plan (schedule) for my workday with time blocked out for something like a yummy dinner at home, a glass of French white wine, or an evening walk. I’m also very consistent about getting up and getting ready. Prepping my skin with my Danucera products after my shower, applying minimal make up, getting dressed, putting on jewelry and spritzing a light fragrance all over. This helps me feel put together and when those things align, I am unstoppable!

Q: When you're traveling, producing an event, or moving between meetings, which Danucera products earn a permanent place in your bag?
Tracy:
At this point I’m highly reliant on Cerabalm. It’s my new bestie and with me always! It’s the perfect pick me up when my skin looks a little dry or my lips feel chapped, which happens often at LA-area outdoor events. I also bring it along on the plane when travelling, it can even play the role of hand cream in a pinch. It’s so absorbent in small doses and feels fresh and clean with a tap-tap-tap on my skin. It’s the best cleanser to wash the day away and also serves as a light overnight mask moisturizer under my eyes. I also have a few small scars from a surgery on my chest, and I feel like Cerabalm just seeps right in and reduces inflammation, redness and evidence of the scar line. It’s so many things in one small tube, and the perfect combination of function and luxury. It feels like a little skincare indulgence, but it actually works incredibly hard as a cleanser, moisturizer, and healer. I need stock up on the mini sizes of this for life, please don’t ever stop making the Cerabalm product!
